CHAIRMAN of the Regional Democratic Council of Region 6 (East Berbice/Corentyne), Mr David Armogan, yesterday reported that both the capital and current works programme of the region for 2013 are still a work in progress; but things are moving smoothly as per schedule.
In an interview with the Guyana Chronicle, he said that, so far, adequate financing is available to commence the projects which were advertised in the media; but because the National Budget had been delayed this year, works in the region started late, and accordingly, none has been completed as yet.
He noted that the region has financing for $383M in developmental works, and $60M in maintenance works, which target the key developmental elements of the communities, such as health, education, agriculture, drainage and irrigation (D&I), maintenance of buildings, and roads, among other infrastructure.
He said a lot of focus and effort would be invested in ensuring that the undertakings are properly executed.
Armogan said the region aims to enhance its education sector, including maintaining school buildings, extending some, and supplying adequate amounts of furniture to those in need.
He said that drainage and irrigation in Region 6 is being closely monitored, and several different jobs have been advertised in an effort to improve the D&I system.
He said all the works being done by the Government are in keeping with its mandate to positively impact and improve the lives of Guyanese, and the Government would try to do as much as possible in the interest of its citizens.
Armogan encouraged persons who have complaints regarding the functioning of their communities to raise those complaints with their respective Neighbourhood Democratic Councils (NDCs) or the Regional Democratic Council (RDC).
