A MAN had an assault charge against him dismissed yesterday, after his common-law wife declined to proceed with the case.
Michael Chester (no address given) appeared before Magistrate Fabayo Azore and he pleaded not guilty to the offence, particulars of which said, on Sunday, July 28, in North Ruimveldt, Georgetown, he unlawfully assaulted Onika Humphrey so as to cause her actual bodily harm. Police Sergeant Ramsahoye Rambajue, prosecuting, told the court, that day about 20:30 hrs, the virtual complainant asked the defendant for the car keys and it led to an argument.
The latter became annoyed dealt the woman several slaps, then dragged her out of the yard, causing her to seek medical attention.
However, Humphrey indicated, to the court, that she does not wish to offer any evidence because they plan to resolve the relationship issue and intend getting married.
“Is this how you planned on starting the marriage, with a first court appearance?” the magistrate enquired of the virtual complainant, but the latter did not respond.
