Police Sergeant Ramsahoye Rambajue, prosecuting, said the virtual complainants operate a dredge in the Mahdia, Potaro area and came to Georgetown to conduct some business.
He said they have a taxi which, usually, takes them around. However, their driver was busy and made arrangements with another man.
They told that other man they wanted to purchase a house and land and he claimed he knows a lady, named Angela, who works at Ministry of Housing and can help them through the process, the prosecutor said.
Down payment
He added that they arranged to meet with Angela and she showed them two properties behind Diamond Housing Scheme, informing them that one is valued at $2.4M and, to get it, they will have to make a down payment of half the sum.
The prosecutor said the couple decided to pay $1.2M and Angela said they could stay in the house and pay the remainder later.
The prosecutor had objected to pre-trial liberty for the accused as the investigation is ongoing and there are more similar allegations could, likely, lead to other charges.
He requested that David be made to lodge his passport and report to the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) Headquarters, Eve Leary, Georgetown, on Fridays, for two weeks.
But his objection was overruled and the case will be called, again, on August 12.
