THE Ministry of Amerindian Affairs has presented the community of Orealla, Region 6 with the replacement part for the community’s generator. The equipment was damaged after the radiator that cools the engine ran dry. This $377,000 replacement part will see the community’s electricity woes coming to an end.
Upon receiving the generator part, Orealla Toshao, Floyd Edwards expressed gratitude to government for delivering on its promise in a timely manner.
He said the part will resolve the electricity woes that the community has been facing for the past few months. “This will make the plant functional and back in service because, in Orealla, electricity is not a luxury anymore, it’s a lifestyle,” Toshao Edwards said.
He said the community depends strongly on the electricity to preserve their meat, students to study in a more comfortable atmosphere, and to ensure the school’s computer systems area operational.
The village leader explained that the community continues to face challenges with the generator because there are not enough houses linked to the system to maintain it.
The generator was given to Orealla by government through a promise that was made by former President, Dr Bharrat Jagdeo about four years ago.
