On a waterlogged outfield, both teams found it difficult to cope with the conditions until Azuma Small netted for the visitors in the 34th minute.
At lemon-time, both teams were eager to rest their feet as St George’s maintained the advantage. Upon resumption of play, the tired-looking teams seemed eager to gain a distinct lead before the final whistle.
Shamar Richards netted an equaliser for NATI in the 47th minute while Orin Moore stole the advantage in favour of St George’s in the 65th minute. It was tough going in the soggy park for the remainder of the game as a desperate NATI outfit tried in vain to conquer their guests, but fate did it differently as the Georgetown lads strolled into the semi-finals and will clash with Waramadong on Sunday.
On the same day, Covent Garden and Wismar/Christianburg Secondary, both defeated Leonora Secondary and Ash Education Institute (AEI) in their quarterfinal encounters, to join St George’s and Waramadong in the semifinals.
Covent Garden came away with a 4-3 victory in an enthralling encounter, thanks to goals from Travin Gaskin (45th), Kevin Agard (73rd), Roddick McKenzie (75th) and Ricky Dass (80th), with Aubrey Greene (25th), Jamal Pereira (60th) and Gavin Graham (85th) finding the back of the net for Leonora Secondary.
In the mining town of Linden, defending champions Wismar/Christianburg got a double strike from Jashawn Moore (31st, 73rd) to come away with a 4-0 win over AEI and in the process book a place in tomorrow’s semifinal where they will engage St George’s while Covent Garden and Waramadong will do battle in the other semifinal, at venues to be named.
