Brumell indicates Linden shooting deaths still under review

ACTING Commissioner, Leroy Brumell said, Wednesday that the recommendations made by the Commission of Inquiry (COI) into the July 18, 2012 shooting deaths at Linden were looked at by both the Police and Ministry of Home Affairs. He told a press conference, at his Eve Leary, Georgetown Headquarters, he is of the view that what was recommended had been submitted for discussions and further review.
“Only recently, I attended a meeting in which the Linden fatal shooting was brought up. So, I expect we will know what the results are shortly,” Brumell told reporters.
Meanwhile, he said the case is still open and they have asked the persons who may have witnessed the shooting to come forward and assist the police.
Crime Chief, Seelall Persaud, who was also at the forum, remarked that, from the onset, the pplice commenced investigations and made suggestions at the COI.
It has been a year since three protestors, Ron Somerset, Shemroy Bouyea and Allan Lewis, were shot and killed at the Mackenzie/Wismar Bridge in Linden when residents took to the streets in protest over proposed electricity tariff increases.
Police and those protesting clashed as the lawmen tried to take control of the situation and missiles, including debris and other materials were used to block the roads.
The cops had used tear gas and rubber bullets and many were injured and hospitalised, as well.
