Defence in South Ruimveldt murder makes no-case submission

ATTORNEY-at-Law, Mr. Peter Hugh, defending Shawn Smith for the alleged murder of Hector Fitzroy Marshall, committed between January 18 and 19, 2009, has made no-case submissions in the absence of the jury.

The motionless body of Marshall was found by his son, Julian Cort Edmonds, tied up and gagged at his South Ruimveldt home. The house had been ransacked, and finger prints that matched those of the accused had allegedly been found on a gift box that was found not far from the body.
Prosecutors Natasha Backer and Dhanika Singh closed their case yesterday.
Following closure of the prosecution’s case, Mr. Peter Hugh did not make a defence, but told the judge that he was relying on a no-case submission, in the absence of the jury.
Justice James Bovell-Drakes, who heard the submission, will rule on Monday.
