Seven days imprisonment for wife assault

A THIRTY-EIGHT-YEAR-OLD taxi driver (no address given) will spend the next seven days behind bars for beating his reputed wife.
The custodial sentence was inflicted on Carlton Macy, yesterday, by Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry, who convicted him of unlawfully assaulting the woman, Jenny Mahadeo on Wednesday, July 3, in La Penitence, Georgetown. Police Sergeant Vernetta Pindar, prosecuting, told the Court, on that day around 19:45 hrs, the couple had an argument about cooking, when the defendant became annoyed and dealt the virtual complainant a blow to the face, making her fall onto a window that broke and caused an abrasion to her left eye.
A report was made at the Ruimveldt Police Station and Macy was arrested and charged.
In a bid to avoid jail time, he apologised for his misconduct and had suggested, to the Chief Magistrate, that he be bonded for two years.
