The project was executed by Mekdeci Mining Company Inc. (MMC), on the free span structure over the banks of Tiger Creek.
The original overpass had been built above a previous one that was erected in 1995 but condemned after it went into a state of despair.
Tremendous strain
In the past, vehicles had to make a significant dip at that point before going uphill and that placed tremendous strain on them, especially heavily loaded ones, as they made the climb.
But with the rehabilitation recently completed, the flexing of the timber logs spawning the structure from bank to bank was significantly reduced by the placing of intermediate support.
Additionally, the existing decking boards were removed and replaced by new and better quality wood.
New running boards, which represent the wheel path of vehicles, were installed and a 12 inch high curb wall was put along the length on both sides and painted black and white, to make the traversing safer.
To prevent weakening of the abutment area on which the superstructure rests, the old edifice was not removed.
