CHRISTIANBURG/Wismar Secondary (Multi) demolished the challenge of Kwakwani Secondary as the two clashed for supremacy in the Digicel Schools Championships Upper Demerara/Upper Berbice Zone football final on Sunday at the Wisburg Secondary School ground. For the third straight year the Multi side displayed their superiority at this kevel as they defended their throne with a 6-1 hammering in a classical display that underlined their dominance.
Christianburg/Wismar Secondary were out of the blocks from the opening whistle with top striker Marmalaque Davidson drilling home the fastest goal in the tournament after just 17 seconds.
The buildup was fast with the play beginning from a cross by Shane Luckie to the centre where a lurking Davidson easily slapped home the opening game for a 1-0 Christianburg/Wismar Secondary lead.
The game’s tempo then picked up with Christianburg/Wismar Secondary’s Shane Luckie, fresh from a hat-trick in the semifinal against Wisburg, getting a second goal for his team when he collected the ball and quickly sent a shot past Deon Jacobs in the Kwakwani goal in the 8th minute.
Ten minutes later Luckie dribbled his way in to score his second goal of the game as Multi enjoyed a 3-0 advantage. One minute, before lemon-time, Duquan Hercules increased that lead to give Multi a 4-0 advantage going into halftime.
The Kwakwani side could not match the overall play of the Christianburg/Wismar Secondary school players and although they were able to pull one back in the 72nd minute through Kurt Simon, the end result was never in doubt.
Then it was Nigel Green’s turn to apply pressure on the Kwakwani players when he got goal number five for the defending champions in the 75th minute, and then polishing off the win in the 84th minute with another classy goal, his second, for an eventual 6-1 hammering of Kwakwani Secondary in what was actually a lopsided 6-1 final.
The two finalists came away with trophies and the Zone winners Christianburg/Wismar received additionally a new set of uniforms which they will use in the playoffs at the National Schools final.
