Taxi driver shot in Cummings Street : …hasn’t yet given police information on incident

CRIME Chief, Seelall Persaud yesterday said that the taxi driver who was shot and injured in Cummings Street, Alberttown, Georgetown last Friday morning did not provide the police with any information as to what transpired even though he was conscious. The Deputy Commissioner of Police added that he is not aware that the dancers, Brazilians and Colombians, are in police custody.
He stated, however, that the matter is still being investigated.
The man identified as Leslie Woode, 26, remains a patient at the GPHC up to press time nursing several gunshots to the body.
He had just dropped the dancing ladies home when an argument began. One of the women reportedly summoned someone to the scene and a green coloured car arrived shortly after with its occupants opening fire on the taxi driver who was shot multiple times to the body.
Police said that at about 04:00 hrs on July 5, Woode, 26, of Seaforth Street, Campbellville, Georgetown, was standing on the roadway at Cummings and Sixth Streets, Alberttown, when shots were discharged at him from a passing motor vehicle.

It was reported that Woode received six gunshots to the forehead, upper body and shoulder and was left for dead after he fell into a nearby drain.

An eyewitness who chose to remain anonymous said it was around 04:00 hrs when he heard gunshots, then he recalled hearing someone calling out for help but he did not venture out.

It was sometime after that the police showed up and conveyed the man to the hospital.

According to Woode, he had just dropped off a group of dancers at Cummings Street when an argument ensued. Then one of the disgruntled customers made a phone call and soon after a green car pulled up near Woode’s car, a white 212 Toyota, and an occupant opened fire and fled the scene. Several spent shells were recovered at the scene.
