A TAXI driver was shot and injured early yesterday morning in Cummings Street, Alberttown, Georgetown.
Leslie Wood, 26, is nursing gunshot injuries in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of Georgetown Pubic Hospital (GPH).
He had dropped off some passengers before the shooting happened about 04:00 hrs.
Police said Wood, of Seaforth Street, Campbellville, also in the city, was standing on the roadway at Cummings and Sixth Streets, Alberttown, when shots were fired at him from a passing motor vehicle.
Investigations are in progress.
Meanwhile, it was reported that Wood suffered six gunshots to the forehead, upper body and shoulder and was left for dead after he fell into a nearby drain.
An eyewitness, who does not want to be named, recalled hearing the gunfire and someone calling for help but did not venture out.
It was sometime after the police arrived on the scene and took the wounded man to hospital.
Wood said he had just transported a group of Brazilian dancers in Cummings Street when an argument erupted and one of the disgruntled customers made a phone call, soon after which another car stopped near to his white Toyota 212 and an occupant of that other vehicle fire shots and fled the scene from where several spent shells were recovered.
