THE 16th annual TCL Cricket Academy, organised by the Rose Hall Town Youth and Sports Club, is expected to bowl off on Monday from 09:00hrs at the Club’s Area ‘H’ ground.

A total of 120 young cricketers, aged 8 to 18 years, would be part of the two-week academy, while the Club would also from Monday be hosting their 6th Annual Republic Bank Summer Camp for 6th Grade students and the first-ever Mathematics Summer Camp for Secondary School students.
Plans for all three summer programmes have been completed according to the Club’s Secretary/CEO Hilbert Foster, who stated that the Academy would be conducted by coaches Michael Hyles-Franco, Winston Smith and Renwick Batson.
Special emphasis would be placed on developing the young cricketers’ abilities on the cricket field while making sure that they understand their roles as role models and sporting ambassadors as the Club, at the end of the academy, hopes to shortlist an elite list of 40 promising cricketers for further coaching and personal development programmes.
The Republic Bank Summer Camp is especially for Grade Six students preparing for secondary school and would last for five weeks, where the students would be taught five subjects – Mathematics, Spanish, English A, English B and Integrated Science and would also receive special coaching to improve their cricketing skills.
The 60 students would also receive several lectures on topics of importance, including drug abuse, peer pressure, importance of education and public speaking.
The Mathematics Camp would he held three days per week from July 8 to August 9 and would involve students from Forms 3 and 4. Admission to all the programmes is free and the club would like to encourage youths in Berbice to take advantage of the opportunities.
