Venezuelan fined for illegal entry

VENEZUELAN Glony Gonsalves, 42, was fined $30,000 with the alternative of six months imprisonment yesterday, for entering Guyana illegally.

Magistrate Fabayo Azore imposed the penalty after the alien pleaded guilty to the offence. Particulars of the offence said he entered this country by sea and failed to present himself to an immigration officer on Sunday, June 23 at Charity, Essequibo Coast.
Through an interpreter, Gonsalves apologised to the Court and claimed  he is suffering from high blood pressure and came here to purchase some medication, after which he will depart.
The magistrate enquired where the defendant has been staying since his arrival, but he said he could not remember the name of the hotel, but it is not far from the waterfront.
