PLEASE publish this letter for me in the Chronicle newspaper. At a recent meeting in Aishalton Village in South Rupununi, the majority of villagers made it known to Mr. Tony James that they are not in support of his vile agenda to use poor Wapichan Amerindians to enrich himself and family.
The Wapichan people are a peaceful people, all the time living in peace and now Mr. James is telling us about some Amerindian Peoples Liberation Front (APLF) which will fight the Government with guns to get back our lands. The Wapichan people do not know what Mr. James is talking about and made it very clear to him that they will not support him. He told us that he is prepared to fight alone. If Mr. James continues to be disrespectful to our village council, we may have to ask him to leave our village in peace.
The Wapichan people of Aishalton village are not opposed to the Romanex Company passing through the village to get to their mining grounds at the Marudi Mountains. It is only Mr. James, his family and a few poor Wapichan women who are used by Dorothy James, the wife of Mr. Tony James to block the company’s excavator from passing. The reason is simple: Mr. James wants the Marudi Mountains for himself and family to enrich themselves while the Wapichan people remain poor.
This is why he is fooling us about ‘Wapichan Territory’ which, as I see it, he wants to rule over like a king and the Wapichan people will be his slaves. We will never allow this to happen to us.
The Romanex Company is a legal company and will have to pay royalties to the government which will go toward our country’s development. But when gold was smuggled to Brazil during the nights before the GGMC stepped in at Marudi Mountains by some people who had shops there, the Government neither Aishalton village received nothing to promote our development. These are the crooks who say that they are fighting for Wapichan territory and are against the Romanex Company.
Mr. Tony James and his Amerindian People’s Liberation Front (APLF) were clearly exposed by Wapichan letter writers to the Guyana Chronicle. Mr. James is now like a dog with its tail between its legs. We are watching him with not two eyes each but with 10 eyes.
