Mahaicony man nursing facial injuries after firing of shotgun

MAHENDRA Persaud, 29, of Esau and Jacob, Mahaicony Creek, East Coast Demerara, is a patient at the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC) nursing injuries to his face following a melee while he was attending a function on Monday morning.

Police reported that at about 00:40 hrs yesterday, the police responded to a report about the discharging of a firearm at a function at Esau and Jacob, Mahaicony Creek, ECD, where they found Mahendra Persaud in a yard with injuries to his face.
A 12-gauge shotgun and an empty casing were handed over to the police by persons who reported that Persaud had an argument with a man during the function. He reportedly left and returned with the firearm and discharged a round, after which several persons took away the firearm and at that time he received injuries.
Persaud was taken for medical treatment at the GPHC as the investigations continue.
