A RECENTLY divorced mother of four was remanded to prison after she pleaded not guilty to a charge of trafficking in narcotics, before Magistrate Roby Benn at the New Amsterdam Court.
Twenty-six year old, Rene Leitch of 108 New Street, Cumberland, East Canje is alleged to have had 180 grammes of cannabis sativa on June 24, 2013.
In an unsuccessful bail application, Attorney-at-law, Charrandas Persaud submitted that the home in which the defendant lived, has multiple occupancy and the drug was allegedly found on the roof of the building.
Responding, Police Sergeant Phillip Sherriff, prosecuting, said ranks were on mobile patrol when they observed the defendant leaning through a window, while putting a bag on the rooftop.
The policemen went into the home and told the defendant to remove the bag which she had placed on the house top. The bag was opened and it was found to contain a quantity of leaves, seeds, and stems believed to be marijuana.
She was arrested and taken to Reliance Police Station, where the seized narcotic was weighed and charges subsequently instituted.
The case is fixed for trial on July 29.
