SPARE parts dealer Heimraj Persaud called ‘Bhugnami’, of Maria’s Lodge, was jailed for four years last Tuesday on conviction for possession of cannabis sativa (marijuana).
In addition, he was fined $30,000 by Magistrate Sunil Scarce at Anna Regina Court. Police had conducted a search on the businessman’s business place, on May 9, after receiving several reports and found 90 grammes of the narcotic in a bag containing a quantity of seeds, leaves and stems of the prohibited plant.
Several witnesses testified at the trial which had started at Suddie Court, also on the Essequibo Coast.
