Two men in custody over break-in at Viscom Electronics Store

Two men are in police custody over the break and enter and robbery at Viscom Electronics Store at Mon Repos Public Road, East Coast Demerara. Store owner Shridath Singh told the Guyana Chronicle, yesterday, that the men are usually in the Bourda Market area. One is a minibus conductor while the other is said to be a drug addict, and they were found in possession of SIM cards which were part of the booty taken from the store last week Tuesday.
He said that the men were arrested on Thursday and remain in custody up to press time assisting with investigations.
A group of four men broke into the store and carted off more than $3.2M worth in expensive electronics and other brand name items.
Singh said that the incident happened at about 03:00 hrs when the bandits used a blowtorch to cut open the locks which were used to secure the front door of the store which is housed on the lower flat of a dwelling house.
He said that the homeowner told him that someone passed the premises and observed the men in the store and telephoned him and when he went to enquire the robbers were in the process of escaping and he raised an alarm.
They dropped two of the bags containing DVD players, iPods, watches and  digital cameras, among other items, while making their escape in a waiting silver grey Toyota 212 car, number plate PKK 2221, carrying away the rest of the electronics and other articles they looted from the store.
Singh said it would appear that the robbers had ample time to select the most expensive electronics from his store, including portable DVD players, colognes, perfumes, cell phones, Blackberry playbooks, laptops, flashdrives, and in addition, colognes and perfumes
He recalled that sometime ago robbers had attempted to break into his other store at Mahaica, also on the East Coast of Demerara.
