Several opened mails found at home of Berbice postman – including utility bills, Christmas cards and correspondence from U.S. embassy addressed to several persons in the New Amsterdam district

POLICE in Berbice are investigating the discovery of a  quantity of mails which were found opened at the home of a postman assigned to a local  branch of the Guyana Post Office Corporation.

The discovery was made after the spouse of the GPOC employee reported to the Central Police Station that she was assaulted by her husband.
Consequently, she took police to their home at Timmers Dam, Mount Sinai, where they discovered several  opened and sealed utility bills, Christmas cards and  correspondence from the United States Embassy addressed to several persons in the New Amsterdam district.
As a result, the postman was arrested and has been cooperating with investigators.
A reliable source at GPOC has confirmed that the employee has been sent on leave, while the file has been sent to the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) for advice.
