Bail denied man in minibus shooting incident

TANDRY Murray, 18, of Lot 1689 National Avenue, South Ruimveldt Park, Georgetown, was remanded to prison yesterday, on a charge of discharging a loaded firearm with intent.

Before Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry, he was charged indictably, with having, last April 13, discharged a loaded gun at Desmond Marcus with intent to maim, disfigure or cause him grievous bodily harm.
Police Sergeant Vernetta Pindar, prosecuting, told the Court it was around 00:30hrs when the virtual complainant had been operating a route 41 minibus in which the defendant was a passenger.
Four persons requested to stop at National Avenue and Murray offered to pay for them but, as he reached his destination and the driver asked for the fares, Murray pulled a gun and shot Marcus.
The Prosecutor successfully objected to bail on the grounds of the seriousness of the crime and that the defendant is a flight risk, having only been apprehended on June 14 following the April 13 incident.
Defence Counsel Adrian Thompson said Murray has no pending case and that police took him out of his house in the wee hours of the morning and asked him to sign a document.
The lawyer, in response to the claim that Murray is a flight risk, said the latter is willing to lodge his passport and other travel documents but pre-trial freedom was denied and the accused has to be back in Court on June 27.
