Scotiabank/Pepsi Schools Under-15 Football Academy… Charlestown and Tutorial crowned Champions

CHARLESTOWN Secondary and Tutorial High School were crowned the male and female champions of the Scotiabank/Pepsi Schools Under-15 Football Academy Tournament after contrasting victories in the finals, yesterday, at the Ministry of Education Ground.

Charlestown defeated Mackenzie High School 3 – 2 in the final of the male competition while the Tutorial females won both matches in the round robin format that included just three teams.
The day got off to an early start with the recent inclement weather not being a bother to the event.
In the first match of the day Tutorial females got past Berbice High School 2 – 1 with Ranett Mohan (11th) and Trishel Jarvis (47th) scoring for the eventual winners, while Giselle Joesph scored the opposition’s lone goal.
When Tutorial battled again they defeated Wisburg females 2 – 0 as Shaquanna Hope (24th) and Kurtisha Underwood (59th) scored for the winners.
The other female match saw Berbice defeat Wisburg 2 – 0, which meant Berbice finished second. Joseph and Chantal Leacock were the scorers for Berbice.
In the first male encounter, Charlestown defeated Berbice High 2 – 0. Charlestown’s Omari James, who scored both goals, was successful in the 31st

and 37th minute.
The second showdown saw Mackenzie squeeze pass Lodge Secondary 2 – 1 to meet Charlestown in the final for top honours.
Omari James opened the scoring for Charlestown in the final when he found the back of the net in the 31st minute. The first minute after the 35-minute half saw James easily scoring again to put Charlestown up by two goals.
Shaquille Campbell managed to pull one back for Mackenzie in the 47th minute but Anthony Bartholomew would make it a two-possession game once again when he scored in the 56th minute.
With time running out, Mackenzie found a goal in the 66th minute, compliments of a Randel Hoenkirk-strike but it was not enough to take the title out of Charlestown’s grasp.
