In Region 4… : REO assures recent quandary will not frustrate him

REGIONAL Executive Officer (REO) of Region 4 (Demerara/Mahaica), Mr. Deoall Rooplall has said that, despite the quandary he faced in the past weeks with Regional Chairman, Mr. Clement Corlette, he will not let it come in the way of him delivering quality and timely work. “As the REO, I will not allow myself to be frustrated by cheap politics,” he told a group of residents, last Wednesday, at the Caledonia/Good Success Neighbourhood Democratic Council (NDC) office during the signing of contracts for capital works projects.
He maintained that it is the sole responsibility of the REO to ensure the proper functioning of the Regional Democratic Council (RDC) and the areas within.
Rooplall acknowledged that his job is not an easy one but said he is up to the task.
He said he will not be intimidated, stray from the path of righteousness and change good policies.
Rooplall told his audience that, 21 years ago, the country was bought over by cheap politics, the entire nation had suffered and it took a while to get back to democracy.
He said, although the Chairman may have issues with him, they are coordinating in a professional manner to have works done at the level of the region.
Chairman Corlette had sought to have REO Roopall removed under Section 117 of the Municipal and District Councils Act, after the former and other councillors passed a no confidence motion requesting the dismissal of the latter approximately three weeks ago.
But, at a subsequent press conference, Minister of Local Government and Regional Development, Mr. Ganga Persaud stated that Deolall will not be fired, as there is no valid reason to do so.
According to the Minister, the Chairman had written him asking for the REO’s removal but Corlette was guiding the RDC to move against Rooplall for following the laid out instructions and not his personal instructions.
