– GuyExpo 2013 Launched… : – President notes that the quality of our people will help us reach international standards

HEAD of State, President Donald Ramotar has stated that in order for our country to meet International Standards we must insure that our Human Resource is off high standards. These thoughts were expressed as he delivered the feature address at the launch of GuyExpo 2013. GuyExpo 2013 is launched under the theme “Advancing Productivity through Innovation, Modernisation and Expansion. The Head of State went to say that the export market is vital for a small country like ours and that producers need to be constantly aware of changing International standards on the world market. “My hope is that one day we do not only follow international standards but we set standards for the international community as well”. He went on to say that Guyana needs to raise its competiveness and quality of standards so that our products and services can be sold  abroad more.
Ramotar went to say that his government has placed and will continue to place importance on human resources.
He said the tourism sector is growing rapidly and has room for expansion. The sector continues to showcase Guyana for the wonderful country that it is. He made clear that GuyExpo started off modestly and has grown to become an annual event that people from the diaspora look forward to.
     
Meanwhile, the Acting Minister of Tourism, Irfaan Ali, who is also the Co- Chairman of the GuyExpo Committee, noted that it was a pleasure to be hosting another GuyExpo. He said that the opportunities for Investment in Guyana are enormous. Over the years, the Government of Guyana has developed an extensive menu of  fiscal measures to encourage the establishment of businesses in the manufacturing, agriculture, ICT, tourism, oil and gas sectors.
Also delivering remarks was Co- Chairman of GuyExpo 2013 and the President of the Guyana Manufacturing and Services Association (GMSA), Mr.Derrick Cummings. He said that apart from lending support to the staging of the exposition this year, they have had the honour of promoting the event the earlier years, and they believe that it is indeed prudent for them to return to the fold at this particular juncture, this year of the association’s 50th anniversary.
Cummings went on to say that they the role they have opted to play this year will be to secure stronger business relationships both at the regional and International level for our manufacturing and services sectors.
The sectors that have been identified for special focus during GuyExpo 2013 are Wood/ Timber Processing, Agro Processing, Arts and Craft and services which include Fashion Designing, Information and Communication Technology, Sports and Clean Energy.
GuyExpo 2013 will be held from the 3rd to the 5th of October, 2013.
