JERMAINE Earl (no address given) was remanded to prison yesterday, on a simple larceny charge. Before Chief Magistrate, Priya Sewnarine-Beharry, he pleaded not guilty to the offence, particulars of which said, on Monday, June 10, in East Ruimveldt, Georgetown, he stole one car battery valued $30,000, property of Teresa Mohamed.
Police Sergeant Vernetta Pindar, prosecuting, told the court the defendant is known to the virtual complainant because he, usually, assists with chores around her yard.
However, that day, Mohamed saw the defendant leaving her yard and, on checking, she discovered the article missing.
Earl said he lives on the streets and the prosecutor, successfully, objected to bail, on the ground that the defendant has no fixed place of abode.
He is to be back in court today.
