TWENTY-YEAR-OLD Mark Persaud of Lot 27 Hill Street, Albouystown, Georgetown, was sentenced to three years imprisonment yesterday, for drug trafficking.
Magistrate Judy Latchman imposed the custodial penalty on him for having, on October 10, 2012, being in possession of 32 grammes of cannabis sativa (marijuana) for the purpose. The court was told that police on mobile patrol observed Persaud acting in a suspicious manner and a search of him yielded a quantity of leaves, seeds and stems of the prohibited plant.
Persaud, who had made his first appearance before Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry in October last year, broke into tears after Magistrate Latchman informed him he had been found guilty as charged.
