Causing death minibus driver granted $150,000 bail

MINIBUS driver, Edison Washington, 43, of Double X, Independence Place, North East Ruimveldt, Georgetown, was granted $150,000 bail on a causing death by dangerous driving charge yesterday. He appeared before Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry, accused of having caused the death of Stanley Troyer by driving in a dangerous manner.
Police Sergeant Vernetta Pindar, prosecuting, said Washington made a turn into David Street, Kitty, when the front of the vehicle hit the victim.
The prosecutor said the defendant assisted the injured man to get to Georgetown Public Hospital (GPH) where he died three days later.
The prosecutor said advice was sought for the charge to be laid but Washington has cooperated with the police throughout the investigations.
Attorney-at-law, Mr. Gordon Gilhuys, for the defence, pointed out that Washington had previously been on $50,000 station bail and requested an early date for trial.
The case was postponed to July 26 for statements after the surety was reduced from $200,000 to $150,000.
