$3M phone cards theft defendant refused bail

JOHN Mc Kenzie, 20, an employee of the Guyana Lands and Surveys Department, appeared on Wednesday before Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry, charged with robbery. The defendant, of Lot 299 Republic Park, pleaded not guilty to the offence, particulars of which alleged that, on Saturday, June 8, in East Ruimveldt, Georgetown, he robbed Daphne Langevine of a quantity of phone cards valued $3M.
Police Sergeant Vernetta Pindar, prosecuting, successfully objected to bail, on the ground that Mc Kenzie has a simple larceny case pending in another court and he was remanded to prison until June 28.
