Angoy’s Avenue man jailed for marijuana possession

RAJIN Sahadeo known as Paul Robinson, 20, of Angoy’s Avenue, got a one year prison sentence on Monday, for narcotic possession.
He pleaded guilty, before Magistrate Adela Nagamootoo, at New Amsterdam Court in Berbice, to having 10 grammes of cannabis sativa (marijuana).
Sahadeo was also fined $10,000 with the alternative of six weeks more imprisonment. The prisoner, who said he lives with his adopted parents, was observed acting in a suspicious manner by Police on mobile patrol, last May 29, in the squatting area on the eastern fringe of New Amsterdam.
A subsequent search of his person yielded a plastic bag containing leaves, seeds and stems of the prohibited plant in his right side pants pocket.
Sahadeo pleaded for leniency, expressing regret for his action but, in answer to the magistrate, said he was not going to sell the drug but use it.
