The economic hypocrisy and bankruptcy of the opposition

THE combined opposition has cut from the 2013 national budget all of the government’s major infrastructural projects citing several reasons, none of which holds water and would be outrightly rejected by any first-year student of economics. At the same time, the opposition, in their presentations during the budget debate, both in and out of Parliament kept accusing the government of putting nothing in the budget that addresses the issue of unemployment, especially among the

youths as well as stemming what they called the brain drain.
Anyone who is willing to spend as little as half an hour researching on the internet the link between large infrastructural projects (which every economist knows the private sector is very unlikely to invest in), job creation and economic development would immediately understand the nonsense APNU and AFC have been spouting to the nation about the very issues they are accusing the government of not being concerned about. They would recognise how APNU and the AFC have been taking them for a ride and insulting their intelligence. They would get a clear understanding of the hypocrisy and economic bankruptcy of the APNU and AFC’s way of thinking. They would understand why the PNC, in all of its 28 years of governing this country, has not only failed to execute a single major infrastructural project, but also failed to maintain what was constructed before them. They will understand the irony and hypocrisy of the statements and actions of APNU and the AFC. And most important, they will see APNU and the AFC for what they really are – a bunch of glorified hypocrites, destroyers of young peoples’ dreams and ignoramuses travelling a road of destruction and vindictiveness, which they are best at.

It is therefore understandable why under the PNC, with the now very famous Carl Greenidge as their Finance Minister, Guyana crumbled. It is  because the PNC did not only fail to maintain the infrastructure it inherited from the PPP government under the visionary leadership of the late great Cheddi Jagan, it did not execute a single major infrastructural project that would have had the potential to create some ripples of development in our country.
In contrast, all of the projects that APNU and the AFC cut from the 2013 budget would not have caused just ripples, but waves of development across Guyana. The AFC and APNU, therefore, either by pure ignorance or vindictiveness are firmly on the road of frustrating government’s efforts to do exactly what they are accusing it of not doing – creating jobs and fostering development.
The question therefore is, how many engineers of all types and class, ICT specialists, project managers, heavy-duty machine operators, heavy-duty mechanics, semi-skilled persons of all kinds, caterers, transport service providers, labourers, carpenters, UG graduates (and the list can go on), have been deprived by the opposition of the opportunity of acquiring jobs commensurate with their qualifications, skills and experience?  Not to mention lost opportunities to all the service industries.
The AFC and APNU are firmly on the road of destroying Guyana. If you truly care about your future and the future of Guyana, join the fight against the opposition today! It is your duty to do so!
