Man remanded over 9mm ammo and cocaine in a box

NGA Greene, 36, of Lot 65 East Ruimveldt, Georgetown yesterday appeared before Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine to answer to the charges of possession of ammunition and narcotics.

He pleaded not guilty to both charges which alleged that on Saturday, June 1, at Cross Street, Georgetown, he had in his possession 50 rounds of 9mm ammunition and 3.5 grams of cocaine in his possession.
Police Sergeant Vernetta Pindar, prosecuting, stated that the police were on patrol when they observed the defendant with a box in his hand. A subsequent search was conducted and he was arrested and taken to the Brickdam Police Station.
The defendant, represented by attorney-at-law Mr. James Bond, told the court that contrary to what the prosecution related, the defendant was in a car with a number of persons. Moreover, he had no knowledge or control of the contents of the box.
Prosecutor Pindar successfully objected to bail, since there is no special reason why he should be granted bail, adding that the defendant was found outside of the car with the box in his hands.
Bail was refused and Greene was remanded to prison until June 7.
