$5,000 fine, six months community service for marijuana

TWENTY-SEVEN-YEAR-OLD Sheldon Thomas (no address given) was, yesterday, fined $5,000 and ordered to do six months community service for drug possession.

Magistrate Fabayo Azore imposed the penalties on him after he admitted that, on Monday, May 27, in Georgetown, he had possession of one gramme cannabis sativa (marijuana).
He told the court he uses the narcotic to treat his asthma.
The father of two has to do the community service at East Ruimveldt Police Outpost, in Georgetown, two hours every Friday.
