Push cart operator remanded on simple larceny charge

WAYNE Browne, a push cart operator of Lot 57 Robb Street, was remanded to prison yesterday, on a simple larceny charge.

He appeared before Magistrate Judy Latchman and pleaded not guilty to the offence, particulars of which said, on Sunday, May 26, on Water Street, also in Georgetown, he stole one gold chain with pendant and other articles, valued $75,000, from Mohanie Ramcharran.
The defendant claimed he was begging a friend for money to purchase milk for his son when two policemen approached, told him of the allegation and took him to the outpost at Stabroek Market Square where he was fingered by the virtual complainant.
Police Sergeant Vishnu Hunt, prosecuting, successfully objected to bail, citing the penalty attached to the crime and the case was put off to June 20.
