PRESIDENT’S College (PC) celebrated its first ‘Cultural Day’ on Thursday, in the school’s dining hall, at South Golden Grove, East Coast Demerara.
The programme included poetry recitation, dancing, singing and video presentations featuring all the six races, in observance of Guyana’s 47th Independence Anniversary.
Delivering the feature address on the occasion was Ms. Melcita Bovell, Technical Assistant/Coordinator of the School Boards Secretariat in the Ministry of Education.
She said it was great that the children cooperated like that to make the event possible and observed that, being at school helps to appreciate another person’s culture.
Bovell urged the students to live in peace and harmony and show the adults of the nation how the people of Guyana should.
The institution is hoping to make the Cultural Day an annual event.
PC was established in September 1985 with a mission to provide Guyanese youths with the finest opportunities for the inculcation of positive attitudes, knowledge and skills.
It boasts a rich history of successes and fame over its past 28 years of existence, celebrating comparable Caribbean Examinations Council (CXC), General Certificate of Education (GCE) and Caribbean Advanced Proficiency Examination (CAPE) results to that of other senior secondary schools in Guyana and the wider Caribbean.
Apart from academics, the school has excelled in athletics, basketball and cricket, among other sports and participates in debating, impromptu speech and short story competitions, elocution and hydroponics.
