With partial financing… Developmental works moving apace in Region 2

CHAIRMAN of Region 2 (Pomeroon/Supenaam), Mr. Parmanand Persaud has reported that, as partial finance is already available, some of the projects in the Regional Works Programme have commenced.

He told the Guyana Chronicle, by telephone yesterday, that, so far, there is adequate funding and the jobs are being advertised in the media.
Tenders are at the evaluation level to assure progress and ensure a better living environment for residents in the region.

Persaud said key developmental elements, such as health, education, agriculture, drainage and irrigation (D&I), maintenance of buildings and roads, are targeted in the communities.
He said a lot of focus and effort will ensure that those undertakings are properly executed. Some are aimed at enhancing the education sector, like the maintenance and extension of schools, as well as the supply of furniture to the approximately 13 in need.
Priorities
Among the priorities are, to maintain and extend the Suddie Hospital and laboratory and electrical installations in the complex. Similarly, living quarters are to be constructed at the extended Charity Hospital.
Persaud emphasised that roads are very important and, as such, attention will be paid to those passing through Lima, Dartmouth, Suddie, Anna Regina, Coffee Grove, Hibernia, Pomona and Richmond, also on the Essequibo Coast.
He said D&I in the region is being closely monitored and advertisements are out for various sections to do construction of timber revetment, irrigation checks, tail walls, maintenance of access dams and erection of box culverts.
Persaud said 10 bridges are to be built and two maintained, all to benefit different communities.
Additionally, he indicated that repairs will be done to the boathouse at Kabakaburi, along Pomeroon River, too.
