Teams known for second GSCL 12/12 Championship in June

FOLLOWING the successful hosting of its inaugural tournament, the Georgetown Softball Cricket League (GSCL) refuses to sit back on its laurels and rest and has already begun planning for another 12/12 championships to be played over a four-day period.

As was the position with their inaugural tournament which culminated at the Everest Cricket Club ground three Sundays and saw Memorex of Berbice defeat reigning Guyana Telephone and Telephone 10/10 champions Regal XI, 12 teams were invited to do battle for supremacy once again.
To this effect, inaugural finalists Memorex and Regal XI, Universal DVD Titans, Bartica Challengers, Cotton Field Wild Oaths, Smith XI, Wolf Warriors, Rising Star, Farm XI, Super Star, Dundee Kings and Hill Foot Warriors are the teams that will battle for a first prize of $600 000 and trophy.
The runner-up team will take home a trophy and $200 000 and according to the GSCL, the playing dates for the tournament are June 15, 1622 and 23 respectively, with the Camp Road-based Everest Cricket Club being the venue of choice once again.
As an added attraction, there will be special giveaways to members of the public on all four playing days, while raffle tickets will be on sale, the proceeds of which will go towards charity. The drawing will take place on the final day of the competition.
The Man-of-the-Series, Man-of-the-Match, Best Batsman and Best Bowler of the tournament will be rewarded with special prizes, as the GSCL intends to leave no stone unturned in not only making this tournament a successful one, but also keeping softball players active.
Meanwhile, the GSCL nationwide Open 12/12, Female and Over-35 competitions are expected to bowl off on Monday, May 27 at various venues and teams are required to pay an entrance fee of $7 000 (Male Open) and $5 000 (Male Over-35) with female teams being offered free participation.
The winners of the Ladies’ category will take home a trophy and $100 000 while the runners-up will receive $50 000 and a trophy.
The first-placed team in the Male Over-35 category will uplift $100 000 and a trophy with the second-placed grabbing $50 000 and a trophy and in the Male Open category, the champions will collect $200 000 and a trophy, while the runners-up will receive $100 000 a trophy.
