Edward ‘Screw’ Richmond Memorial Under-19 Tournament – Wismar Christianburg Secondary ‘Multi ’ and New Silvercity Secondary to clash in today’s final

PLAYING through the challenges of the inclement weather conditions which have plagued sports particularly in Linden over the past month, the organisers of the annual Edward ‘Screw’ Richmond Memorial Under-19 football championships have announced that the final of this championship will be contested this afternoon at the Wisburg

Secondary School ground.
The finalists are New Silvercity Secondary who will match skills with Christianburg/ Wismar Secondary (Multi) from 16:00hrs while the third place playoff between Harmony and Linden Technical Institute at 14:30hrs.

The presentation of prizes will be done by chairman of the Edward ‘Screw’ Richmond Foundation which is based in the United States.
‘Screw’ Richmond is regarded as one of Linden’s best known sports persons and was the first to represent Guyana at the senior level.
To reach the final Christianburg/Wismar Secondary had to get past Harmony after they lost the first leg game 1-0, when Kurd Johnson got that winning goal for Harmony.
However, in the return leg last Thursday the ‘Multi‘ Boys won 2-1 with Yannick Simon and Marmalique Johnson scoring the winning goals and with the scores being tied on aggregate, the Christianburg/Wismar Secondary advanced reportedly by the away goal advantage.
In the other semifinal also played last Tuesday, New Silvercity first won 1-0, thanks to a lone goal by O’Neil Gentle while they drew the return leg 1-1 as Shaquille Alexander scored for the New Silvercity Secondary and Shaquille Clarke did likewise for Linden Technical Institute who lost by a 2-1 aggregate score.
Witnessing this afternoon’s final will be Ernest Joseph, chairman of the Edward ‘Screw’ Richmond Foundation and who will assist in the presentation of the winning trophy and replicas to the 2013 champions.
Other individual prizes at stake for the top scorer, best midfield player, best defensive player and the leading goalscorer of the tournament will also be presented after the final.
