WHILE the Guyana Post Office Corporation has been around for decades, we sometimes forget to recognise their contribution to society and our country as a whole.
Information technology has replaced telegraph and written letters to an extent. We now have internet and cell phones with many features similar to that of computers.
Texting, BBM, E-mail and other forms of communication have evolved. The post offices have continued to stand the test of time and will continue to exist once civilisation exists. Our post offices in Guyana have had to face many challenges, namely, staff shortages, robbery, illegal drugs infiltration just to name a few.
I take this opportunity to salute the Post Masters and their staff for their sterling contribution to our country.
I think at some time the management should come up with some more incentives, e.g., best post man and woman of the year. There is still need for some upgrade of some of the buildings around the country.
Some offices have even ventured into economic projects so as to support its sustainability
Good luck to our Post Office staff around our country.
