PROMINENT Pomeroon and Essequibo businessman Alfro Alphonso has given the assurance that he will renew his financial and other assistance to the continued growth and development of cricket in Pomeroon.

This was after the businessman had rendered yet again financial support towards the successful staging of the Norbert Alphonso and Hassan Rahim Memorial Cricket competition.
The prominent businessman said that he recognised that a lot is expected of him in terms of financial support and as such he will continue to play a pivotal role in the advancement of sports in the region thus creating an avenue for the sporting development of the youths.
He has also lent valuable sponsorship to other cricket competitions during the year which were staged by both the Pomeroon Sports Committee and the Essequibo Cricket Board.
A number of persons continue to express thanks and profound gratitude to Alphonso who is regarded as the longest and most consistent sponsor for Pomeroon Cricket. Many have expressed the view that the growth and development of cricket in the Pomeroon is largely due to the businessman’s unwavering support and assistance.
While Alphonso refuses to take full credit for this, he said it is important that businesses lend valuable support as providing opportunities for youths will result in decreased social ills thus resulting in a better society.
This has been the catalyst for young players from the Pomeroon being able to effectively represent Essequibo and at higher levels.
Alphonso continues to express delight at being able to support cricket – a sport he said he dearly loves. He expressed the view that supporting the sport is another avenue at partnering with them to foster opportunities and avenues for the harnessing of talent.
He recognises the input of sponsorship in the lives of young aspiring cricketers. He further admitted that after viewing the many competitions that he has sponsored over the years, he recognised the importance of continued corporate support towards sports development in his community, noting that with cricket being the primary sport he is committed to supporting it all the way.
“I feel that supporting organisations such as the Pomeroon Sports Committee and the Essequibo Cricket Board can be the catalyst to the promotion of criclet and by extension the development of young Guyanese cricketing personalities,” said Alphonso.
Meanwhile, an official of the Pomeroon Sports Committee expressed gratitude and thanks to Alphonso, noting that he is one businessman who is always ready and willing to lend whatever assistance he can towards executing cricket competitions.
He noted that had it not been for the unwavering and generous support of Alphonso, cricket in Pomeroon and by extension Essequibo would have suffered greatly. He expressed a desire that other business owners and cricketing fans should emulate what Alfro Alphonso has been doing over the years.
