Three persons detained for Mootoos killing

THE Guyana Police Force (GPF) is continuing its investigations into the fiery death of the Mootoos which occurred earlier this month at their home.

altOn Friday the Crime Chief Seelall Persaud, Deputy Commissioner of Police confirmed that the investigations are ongoing and that the force is continuing to follow some leads.
At the time of speaking with the media he did confirm that there were three persons who were in custody for the murders and the torching of the couple’s home in which their charred remains were found.
On Friday this publication was unable to ascertain if the police were preparing to charge any of the three persons in custody with the murder of the business couple.
It was also impossible at that time for this publication to ascertain if anyone will be appearing in court anytime soon for the crime which continues to attract deep and high level police investigations.
Two Thursdays ago the fire department was called to respond to a fire at the home of the business couple and upon investigation it was revealed that the couple was lying dead in the house which had been torched.
Persons in the area reported hearing a loud explosion coming from the house seconds before they saw the fire. They also told investigators and news reporters that shortly after hearing the explosion they saw a white vehicle with dark windows speeding out of the community which has one entry and exit.
Post-mortems conducted on the bodies of the couple revealed that the businessman died as a result of smoke inhalation and burnt trauma while his wife was killed as a result of burnt trauma, smoke inhalation and blunt trauma to the back.
The post-mortems did not find any evidence that the any of the two persons received gunshot wounds, which dispelled rumours that gunshots were fired prior to the discovery of a blaze coming from the home.
Meanwhile, the Crime Chief also stated that their investigations into the discovery of a young couple in a car along the East Bank of Demerara Public Road are still ongoing. While persons have concluded that the couple was involved in a murder suicide, Seelall told reporters that the police never close cases and in cases such as the one involving that young couple is usually sent to the Director of Public Prosecution for advice.
