Policemen manning a roadblock on Saturday at Wisroc, Wismar, arrested two men after they stopped and searched a minibus in which there were three motorcycles that were illegally imported through Lethem.
Police reported that at about 12:55 hrs the civilian driver and a civilian passenger were arrested and are in police custody assisting with investigations.
However, a policeman who was also a passenger in the vehicle was placed under close arrest after he was found to have left his station district without permission.
Contrary to a Demerara Waves online report, no police rank has been arrested in relation to the motor-cycles, police confirmed.
Meanwhile, in a separate incident at about 22:10 hrs last Friday, ranks conducted a search on a man at the Stabroek Market Square, Georgetown, in whose possession was found an unlicensed .32 Taurus revolver with six matching rounds.
He was arrested and is in police custody assisting with investigations.
