TRAINING for 14 ranks for the Guyana Police Force (GPF) Air Wing, who were interviewed for the positions of pilots/engineers by experts of the local aviation industry, will begin in phases.
Minister of Home Affairs, Clement Rohee told the gathering on Friday at his Ministry’s boardroom during the launching of the “I Paid A Bribe” website that the ranks for the GPF Air Wing was selected and they will begin a series of training in several phases.
He said that police ranks at the level of cadets will be trained at the Art Williams and Harry Wendt Aeronautical Engineering School and the Guyana Defence Force (GDF).
Rohee said the objective is to establish an Aeronautical Branch of the GPF so it could to own and operate its own aircrafts.
Training
Rohee also said on Friday that 30 ranks from the Guyana Police Force (GPF) were sent overseas for training in various areas in different countries which began in January this year.
The Ministry of Home Affairs (MOHA) has recommended several adjustments particularly in the area of training in the budgetary allocation for the GPF in the MOHA for 2013.
Whereas in the past only five percent of the Ministry of Home Affairs’ budgetary provision was allocated for local training, for 2013 more than 30% of the budgetary provision will be utilised for training both locally and overseas.
The MOHA in consultation with the senior management of the GPF has agreed that for the year 2013 ranks from the level of Constable to Assistant Commissioner will be sent abroad for overseas training. This is to be made mandatory.
At the local level, with the recent approval by Cabinet of a Policy on Study Leave for Ranks in the GPF, the Guyana Prison Service and the Guyana Fire Service the way has now been opened for Ranks from these Departments to pursue academic studies at the University of Guyana and other institutions of higher learning at home and abroad without losing any benefits and entitlements.
