THE government’s commitment to expanding health facilities across the country to ensure all citizens have access to health care services continues to move ahead.
On Thursday, Minister within the Ministry of Local Government and Regional Development, Norman Whittaker, officially commissioned a new health hut at Princeville, Region 8, during a ministerial outreach to the region. The facility, built at a cost of $6.8M, will see residents benefiting from improved health care services in their community.
This initiative emanated from the residents’ request to have a new health facility and government’s commitment to ensuring improved and accessible health care services in Guyana.
Minister Whittaker urged the residents to preserve the health facility, and charged the health worker to perform her duties in the interest of the community’s residents and to enhance the quality of services offered.
Community Health worker (CHW) Delaris Thomas, welcomed the initiative, since she would now be able to operate in a conducive environment.
The health hut was constructed in 2012 by J and B brothers, and is equipped with a waiting area, malaria room, CHW room, drug storage room, and wash room, and water storage facilities. It is also fenced.(GINA)
