Packed agenda for Independence Anniversary

GUYANESE are gearing up to celebrate the country’s 47th Independence Anniversary on May 26, and as is the tradition, President Donald Ramotar and his government ministers will be participating fully in the activities to mark this milestone. The Head of State will be at the National Park to witness the hoisting of the Golden Arrowhead at midnight on May 25, and to the deliver his address to the nation. Meanwhile, several government ministers will fan out to the 10 administrative regions to join  residents in their celebrations.
The ministers have been assigned as follows:
* Region 1- Minister of Local Government and Regional Development, Ganga Persaud
* Region 2- Minister of Home Affairs, Clement Rohee
* Region 3- Attorney General and Minister of Legal Affairs, Anil Nandlall
* Region 4- Minister of Public Service, Dr. Jennifer Westford
* Region 5- Minister of Housing and Water, Irfaan Ali
* Region 6- Presidential Advisor on Governance, Gail Teixeira
* Region 7- Minister within the Ministry of Local Government and Regional Development, Norman Whittaker
* Region 8- Minister of Public Works, Robeson Benn
* Region 9- Minister of Foreign Affairs, Carolyn Rodrigues-Birkett, and
* Region 10- Minister within the Ministry of Finance, Juan Edghill
Guyana won its Independence on May 26, 1966, from Britain after years of struggle in an era dominated by tyranny, replete with dissatisfaction, poor working and living conditions towards those who were perceived as second-class citizens in the land of their birth.
