SEVENTY-one year old pensioner and neighbour, Dora Fraser, yesterday told an assize jury in the step-daughter /step-father murder trial that the accused, Abickie Ferguson, was ill-mannered and abusive to her stepfather Glendon Scipio on being rebuked for her behaviour.
The girl, now, 21, is facing trial before Justice Navindra Singh and a mixed jury at the Demerara Assizes for allegedly stabbing her stepfather to death on Wednesday April 22, 2009, when she was 17.
Earlier in the trial, she admitted stabbing the stepfather, but claimed that the attack on him was due to the continuation of his frequent abuse on her.
The father of the girl, Ronald Ferguson, supported his daughter’s story in part, and said that the step-father had made several rape attempts on the girl.
But yesterday, neighbour Dora Fraser, who was called as a witness for the prosecution, had a different story to tell.
She testified, “I know Abickie since she was small. She is always doing wrong things, having boys, and when her stepfather, Glendon Scipio, speaks to her about her behaviour, she would abuse him.
“On Wednesday the 22nd of April, 2009, her mother, Esther, left for work, leaving Abickie at home for her to go to school. She did not go to school that day.
“Later that day the stepfather complained to me that he was playing his television when his step-daughter pulled out the plug.
“An argument started between both of them. My grandson Kevin went over and spoke to them.
“Abickie came downstairs. Glendon, then wrapped in a towel, also came down stairs. The argument continued. I saw Abickie run upstairs and returned downstairs. I then heard Glendon Scipio shout, ‘Oh God, Oh God’. He then held onto his left side stomach and fell down. I then saw Abickie walk and go upstairs. I asked Abickie why she stabbed Glendon, and she told me that Glendon had knocked her.
“Persons put Glendon in a car and took him to hospital. Later I told the police what I know and I gave them a statement”.
In answer to questions from defence counsel, Mr. Huckumchand, witness said that she did not see Abickie with a knife nor did she see her stab Glendon Scipio.
Prosecutor Miss Rhondel Weever declared that the accused had admitted to the killing of Scipio.
The prosecution, including Miss Renita Singh, led direct and circumstantial evidence in order to prove the prosecution’s case.
Mr. Huckumchand Attorney-at- Law is appearing for the defence.
The trial is continuing.
