TELEVISION broadcaster and Leader of the Justice for All Party (JFAP), Chandra Narine Sharma will have to stand trial in the High Court for carnal knowledge allegedly committed against a then 13-year-old girl back in 2004.

Magistrate Sueanna Lovell on Wednesday found that a prima facie case was made out against the 61-year-old owner of CNS Channel Six who was charged back in 2010 with carnal knowledge of a girl under seven years old. A judge and jury will now decide his fate. The entire court proceedings were held in camera away from the public eye.
On April 20, 2010, then acting Chief Magistrate Melissa Ogle-Robertson had refused bail for Sharma when he first appeared in court. Particulars of the charge said that between July 23, 2003 and July 23, 2004, he had carnal knowledge of a girl under seven years old.
Before exiting the chute, Sharma collapsed in full glare of media cameras. Speculation was rife that the JFPA leader had feigned the fall so as to avoid going to prison that night.
The following day, he appeared in court and was granted bail in the sum of $2M and a preliminary inquiry commenced.
Sharma again appeared in court on April 26, 2010 and a new charge of obstructing the course of justice was read to him by Magistrate Robertson.
Particulars of this charge said that on April 15, 2010, he wilfully attempted to obstruct the course of justice by removing two of the girls at the centre of the allegations against him from a house in Robb Street and taking them to one at 123 Golden Grove, East Bank Demerara, in order to prevent them from being questioned by the police in relation to the allegations. He was released on $100,000 bail for this matter.
Meanwhile, the allegations against Sharma stemmed from the circulation of an affidavit by a girl who claimed that the controversial politician/businessman had raped her repeatedly for years. It is alleged that the girl was repeatedly raped by Sharma ever since she was seven.
The girl also stated that Sharma did the same thing to her siblings and they would receive $2,000 per week after sexual intercourse.
The girl added in the statement that she and her four sisters were all raped and sexually abused by Sharma over a period of time.
