COMFORT Sleep, located at Eccles, East Bank Demerara, recently made a tangible donation to Joshua House Orphanage in Thomas Street, Georgetown.
The contribution comprised a quantity of mattresses and pillows and was made possible through collaboration between Joshua House and the University of Guyana (UG) Social Work Programmes Department which accommodates students who are pursuing the Diploma Programme.
Speaking at the handing over ceremony, UG’s Kevin Morgan said his faculty received word of the orphanage’s need for mattresses and pillows since, in some cases; two persons have to sleep on one bed.
He said the Faculty of Social Sciences approached Comfort Sleep, whose Administrative Representative, Deodat Naraine said the gesture is part of their ‘giving back to society’ drive that they have maintained over the years.
Naraine added that they have made similar donations to other orphanages and special homes and his company is also engaged in ongoing feeding programmes with various schools around Guyana.
He said similar initiatives will continue for the remainder of the year.
Accepting the gifts on behalf of Joshua House, Administrator Gladys Accra was very appreciative of the benefit, emphasising that they are in dire need of more donations from other corporate and private entities.
While she is very thankful for the $100,000 they receive from Government every year, she said the verandah of their building is badly in need of repairs and cannot be used by its occupants, presently, because of its deteriorating condition.
Accra said Joshua House certainly requires more financial funding since it operates entirely on donor contributions.
