In Region 3… Faerber urges patience towards restoration of roads

CHAIRMAN of Region 3 (Essequibo Islands/West Demerara), Mr. Julius Faerber has announced that works to restore the roads in certain areas will commence very soon.

altHe told the Guyana Chronicle, last Thursday, that the Regional Democratic Council (RDC) is awaiting the release of funds, from the Ministry of Finance, which will be given to the various Neighbourhood Democratic Councils (NDCs) to advertise tenders for the jobs.
Faerber acknowledged that residents in the Region complain, constantly, about the state of the roads and it is the Government’s mandate to ensure they take care of the public needs.
He said the NDCs would have sought out the dilapidated roads and included them in their annual budget where they were reviewed by the RDC and sent to the Local Government and Public Works Ministries for further reviewing.
Faerber said residents in the various areas have highlighted their need for better roads but the RDC can only do as much as the NDC reports to them.
He said, quite recently, residents of Parika, East Bank Essequibo area, have protested the state of the Parika Backdam road, which leads from the public thoroughfare to Parika Backdam main road.
However, Faerber urged all residents to be patient, for the time being, as it is very important for the funding to be released. Until then, works cannot begin and, even before, the projects have to be advertised so a suitable contractor would be chosen.
