In unfortunate end to Mother’s Day… Mother arrested for setting house on fire

A MOTHER of seven, Nicola Gomes, yesterday set fire to the shack in which she lived with two of her seven children. The fire started just after 14.30hrs yesterday.

altThe Guyana Chronicle was informed by persons in the area and family members that the woman is of unsound mind and would sometimes “trip out”, doing strange things.
The house was located at 13 Meadow Brook, where the woman lived with the two children, while the other children lived around the corner with a relative.alt
One resident of the area told this publication that she was at work when she received the news that the house next to her home was on fire. The woman said that when she arrived at the location she noticed that the fire was spreading to her home and persons who had gathered at the scene quickly started fighting the blaze until the fire tender arrived, but not before a section of the building was burnt.
The woman, who gave her name as Dion Kraft, said that she is happy that her entire home altwas not affected by the fire.
Kraft said that a few weeks ago the same woman who is responsible for the setting of the fire broke several window panes at her (Kraft’s) home.
The woman was arrested by the police and taken into custody. Up to press time she was spending the rest of Mother’s Day in a cell at La Penitence Police Station.
