Nations University develops partnership in Kosovo

NATIONS University at 41 New Market Street, Georgetown, has developed a partnership with AAB University in the Balkans and students and staff from the institution here will now be able to develop a series of exchange visits with their counterparts in Kosovo.

altDirector of Nations University, Dr. Brian O’Toole, has just wrapped up a one- week visit to Kosovo during which he was actively engaged in developing the partnership, a press release from Nations University said yesterday.
Kosovo, a newly created independent country that has grown out of the former Republic of Yugoslavia, following ten years of war and conflict, has recently been recognised by Guyana as an independent nation.
For a number of years Nations University has offered a range of degrees and diplomas in Guyana from leading universities in the United Kingdom (UK) and Dr. O’Toole has now introduced these same courses at AAB University in Kosovo.
The plan is for students and staff from Nations University to develop a series of exchange visits with their counterparts in Kosovo, the release stated.alt
Dr. O’Toole has helped AAB University prepare a three-year, one million US dollar European Union Tempus Higher Education proposal. As a first step to developing that proposal, partnerships have been established between AAB University in Kosovo, Nations University in Guyana and English Universities, the release stated.
Established in 2002, AAB University, with a student population of 15,000, is the largest private university in the Balkan region, South East Europe.
The AAB University offers 25 undergraduate and seven postgraduate courses from three campuses in Kosovo – one in the capital city of Prishtina, and in Gjakova and Ferizaj (two larger towns of Kosovo).
Meanwhile, AAB University has appointed Dr. O’Toole as the part-time coordinator of International Collaboration at AAB University to facilitate these various partnerships.
On his way to Kosovo, Dr. O’Toole also met with the Director of International Programmes at the University of Cambridge, with a view to assisting with the process of educational reform in Kosovo.
While in Kosovo from May 6 to 10, Dr. O’Toole was instrumental in helping to organise high-profile visits from key stakeholders to have a series of meetings with the Directors of AAB University and Ministry of Education officials in Kosovo.
The stakeholders were Professor Sharp, Dean of London School of Economics of the University of London; Dr. Allistair Ford, Chairman of the Institute of Commercial Management and Dr Jon Swindell, Head of Business at the Association of Business Executives (ABE).
In the week of activities, meetings were held with the British Council in Kosovo, and the Director of Higher Education. A number of large meetings were also held with student groups at the AAB University to introduce the various programmes to the Kosovo students.
